New year 2014 3d render

Wow 2013 seems to have gone so quickly.

Are you someone that sets goals at the start of the year? Did you have some dreams that you hoped would be fulfilled by the end of the year?

If so, how are you doing in achieving your goals and dreams for 2013?

As a great proverb mentions ‘Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life’ – Proverbs 13 v 12.

Will you be able to build upon them in 2014? I have discovered that the clearer you are with your hopes, dreams and goals, the easier it is to focus on them in order to achieve them.

For example, I have often heard people say (myself included) ‘I want to lose weight’  and this is a great goal to go for. However it lacks two vital areas. A goal should be one that you can measure. Therefore to have a target, such as ‘I want to lose 1 stone’ again is a great goal, but still lacks another major component.

Timing – when do you want to achieve this goal by? A goal should have a time element attached to it. Therefore to say ‘I want to lose 1 stone in 3 months’ is a very clear goal. You will either do this or not. At the end of the 3 months you will be able to celebrate or not.

Two other areas I have found very helpful in achieving goals is to first, write it out. Don’t just think about; write it down, so that you can remind yourself about it and promise it to yourself.

The second area is to be accountable to someone with your goal. Have an accountability partner, this maybe your coach, someone from your inner circle or a good friend. They will be able to bring encouragement and challenge to you as you seek to meet your goals.

I like these encouraging words from Conrad Hilton “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.”

However even if you have gone off track for your goals for 2013 – there are still 100 days left! The big question is what will you do in the next 100 days to reach them?

You may not have set any goals for 2013. Why not bet on yourself in areas you want to achieve in the next 100 days.

I want to greatly encourage you to make the most of the next 100 days. Growth comes from being intentional. There could be many ‘wins’ ahead of you – however you need to determine in having a lifestyle of being intentional and when you do you will enjoy seeing considerable growth in your life.
